We’re proud of Suffolk and our tradition of doing things differently. Now we really want to take the lead.
Suffolk: Creating the Greenest County is an ambitious new project that involves the whole county in responding to climate change. Suffolk already has some fantastic projects in action, and this initiative is about joining them up, and making more possible.
Suffolk’s environment is one of the finest in Britain, but it is threatened by climate change – rising sea levels, a lack of water, and extremes of weather all mean that Suffolk’s unique character will change. We need to take a lead in reacting to this, and we can make a huge difference together.
We think being ‘green’ isn’t just about using less energy and recycling more. It also means looking after our natural landscapes, and supporting local businesses and communities to rely less on things made elsewhere, creating more self-sustaining places to live.
This initiative is part of Suffolk’s new Community Strategy, and brings together many organisations in the county – from local government to non-profit groups and businesses – who have signed the Statement of Intent with the shared aim of changing the way we live and work. It has four themes:
