What is Suffolk: Creating the Greenest County?

We’re proud of Suffolk and our tradition of doing things differently. Now we really want to take the lead.

Suffolk: Creating the Greenest County is an aspiration that involves the whole county in responding to climate change and enhancing the natural and historic environment. Suffolk already has many fantastic projects in action, we want to join them up, improve recognition of them and make even more possible.

Launched at a high profile conference at Trinity Park, Ipswich in October 2007 by John Gummer MP and Michael Meacher MP, Creating the Greenest County has gone from strength to strength, working with local communities and buinesses to reduce their carbon footprint and enhance their natural environment.

The partnership has three key themes

We want to achieve this through

  • Tackling climate change and its effects
  • Engaging with communities and businesses in Suffolk
  • Enhancing Suffolk’s landscape, biodiversity and historic environment
  • Promoting and supporting local food and drink production

A priority in Suffolk’s Community Strategy, Creating the Greenest County brings together many organisations in the county – from local government to volunteer groups and businesses – who have signed the Statement of Intent with the shared aim of changing the way we live and work.
