The Log House Company Limited

We use U.K. timber – sourced from The Forestry Commission and hence FSC timber.

Each building is unique and original as each one is hand crafted.

Each Log is hand selected from the forest, felled and peeled.

We build to a time proven method which is strong & efficient and ticks modern standards yet adheres to common sense in using local raw materials.

The Log House Co ltd manufactures using large logs. This locks up carbon for a very long time period.

Wood itself is a tremendous insulator. To make a complete house in logs only uses approximely 12 gallons of fuel – so there is exceptionally low (if not unrivaled) embodied energy in the walls.

Log homes can be very energy efficient. Not only do they not produce carbon in the overall manufacture due to the use of local and renewable timber, we have a pressure test rating of 2.63 - a far better reading than the average new build.

We achieve 0.31 “U” value for the wall as they are and calculate around 0.1 – 0.15 U value if we use a layer of hemp giving to all intensive purposes a “normal” looking internal wall.

The building size can be modest or large, suitable for many uses, from extra accommodation, residential housing or public buildings.

A new build is expected to reach 10% usage of renewable material; we can come in at around 80-85%. If combined with sensible utilities; heat exchange pumps, reed bed waste and grey water systems, Photo Voltaic and/or wind power, then it would be very hard indeed to find a “greener” more eco-friendly home than a Log House Co Ltd build.

We are a local Suffolk company and offer credentials very hard to meet from a low impact, environmentally friendly and green view point and in a tune with very up to date government and other directives.

We still find it amusing at the Log House that with all mans “progress” in recent decades with materials and policies, a form of building which has stood the test of time for centuries should re-emerge as one to meet and in most cases exceed current regulations and still offer an almost forgotten attitude of common sense in use of local natural materials and if that’s not enough, arguably be the most aesthetic and robust; durable and solid construction, needing minimal footings yet able to withstand extreme conditions. One of the log building legends, B. Allan Mackie wrote about this green attitude way back in 1971.
