The Wenhaston Energy Support Group was set up in early 2007 to reduce our carbon footprint by developing a more energy efficient community, with support from the Parish Council.
Wenhaston's Carbon Footprint 136.83 kB
We began with a Community Carbon Audit Exercise which underpinned our Action Plan and earned Wenhaston the 'Creating the Greenest County' (Energy) Award. To see the results please click.
Since then we have:
Organised an energy day and an Installation Morning
Held a public forum and discussion to receive the Audit
Shown the film 'An Inconvenient Truth'
Had monthly updates in the village newsletter
Distributed an Energy Saving Booklet and low-energy light bulbs
Supported the formation of 2 Eco Teams
Loaned 3 electricity monitors to households
Linked in with the village primary school and lent them an electricity monitor to use with pupils
Worked with the village Hall to support their eco-building plans
In response to the audit results and recommendations we have collaborated with Suffolk Energy Action Link to help households apply for grants for cavity and loft installation, and initiated a bulk-buy solar water heating project which is progressing well.
Our partnership with SEAL, EST, Suffolk CRed, Suffolk ACRE, Suffolk Coastal DC Environmental Sustainability and 'Creating the Greenest County' as well as close collaboration with our village groups create a great network for encouraging and sharing ideas, and getting funding. We are not experts, but we facilitate villagers to make their own informed choices.
Now we hope to attract resources to enable us to support short and longer term projects in our Action Plan. We will need to do a second Audit next year to see how far we are succeeding in our aims - and so it goes on!
