Birchwood Primary School

Birchwood Primary School is a small school of about 200 students aged between 5 and11. In 2007, they became part of the eco-schools programme and in 2009 they awarded the Eco-schools green flag status.

The school wanted to reduce the environmental impact of their school and at the same time improve their natural environment and a more sustainable community. The pupils and teachers did a variety of activities, including reducing the amount of waste they recycle. They were awarded a gold star from Suffolk County Council for recycling 80% of their waste. They have started to build bike shelters made from sustainable material and have recently secured 50% funding for thermal solar panels.
