Transition Ipswich

Transition Ipswich was formed as part of the Transition Town movement. It aims to address both climate change and energy issues locally.

We organised a successful bike ride for the International Day of Climate Action, 24th October 2009, as part of the 350.org actions to press for an effective and fair climate change treaty.

We have created a Transport Group (within Transition Ipswich) which will organise further low-carbon transport initiatives. Many of these events and initiatives will involve the wider community. The next cycle event is planned for 26th June, 2010 and will involve other groups such as the Genesis Green Bikes project, the People's Community Garden and IpArt. The cycle ride will be to publicise greener transport options and to create awareness of projects such as Genesis and the People's Community Garden.

Future objectives are to envision more low-carbon travel options and to assist with their development and implementation. We are working with Wombat Cars to help them provide an extra car for their successful car share club. We also liaise with Cycle Ipswich and Sustrans' local representatives. We also plan to start a community bicycle skills workshop. We may also help Sustrans implement a local Safe Routes to School project.
