Elmswell Parish Council

Community Energy Project Award Winner

In 2005, Suffolk Preservation Society and Orwell Housing Association decided to build an exemplar affordable housing project with very strong 'eco' credentials in terms of construction, maintenance and lifestyle. Working with the community and Mid Suffolk District Council, Elmswell was selected as the chosen location.

The completed scheme provides 26 affordable homes for local people and has had an uplifting effect for the whole community. The construction has been entirely carbon-neutral and with an Eco-Homes, 'excellent', rating is considered to be as close to zero carbon as any multi-unit residential project within the UK.
