These awards celebrate community-based commitment to the environment. A community may be geographical or social, so long as it is an open and inclusive group working together for common benefit.
The community award has been split into the following categories, allowing recognition for a range of different achievements:

- Community Transport
- Community Energy Projects
- Communication and events
- Landscape and biodiversity
- Green Hero
Applicants can apply to up to two different categories but must fill out separate award application forms. Award winners from 2009 cannot enter the same category that they previously won an award in.
