The Network is being launched at Great Barton Village Hall on Saturday 6th February, 10am – 3pm. This first event will run as a day of open workshops, providing a forum for existing and new groups to meet together to provide inspiration and learning from their own communities. Successful projects already include bulk buying insulation, allotments, zero waste weeks and renewable energy systems. Advisors will also be on hand to discuss the latest funding opportunities. The day will end with a free tour around Pakenham Watermill, a 19th Century mill, restored and still milling local flour.
Over the next year, the Network will continue to visit leading projects across the county giving groups the opportunity to talk about their experiences and share what they have learned. Future events will also host themed training and workshops on a range of 'green' topics.
‘There are so many creative ideas being put into action around the country now its time to celebrate all that’s been achieved so far and to look at what the future could be’ says David Walton, Manager of the Suffolk Climate Change Partnership. ‘Communities and Individuals have a vital role in helping to reduce the effects of climate change and help Suffolk to become the greenest county’
The network will be open to individuals who are already part of an environmental community, those looking to start a new group, parish councils, religious groups, sports clubs and any not for profit organisations based in Suffolk.
Whether you’re a full blown Transition Town or just a curious parish, come along to find out what is happening around the county and how you can join in.
