Energy monitors available from libraries.

Thursday 04 February 2010

From 4 February there will be 400 electricity monitors available for you to borrow (for free!) from all public libraries across Suffolk, including our mobile libraries.

The monitors show you, from inside the comfort of your home, how much electricity you are using and what it is costing you in £s and pence.  You become more aware of how much energy you are using and consequently become more careful and waste less electricity by turning off lights and appliances.  Using one of these monitors can typically save an average size family between £25 and £75 off a £500 electricity bill.

Everyone who borrows a monitor is being encouraged to submit a feedback form available from this site   to let us know how much energy they are saving.  All submitted forms are then entered into a monthly prize draw to win an energy saving device.

The project aims to:

  •   Reduce carbon emissions from energy use
  •   Help alleviate fuel poverty
  •   Encourage Suffolk residents to make use of their public libraries

This exciting new project is being funded by the Creating the Greenest County delivery partnership in partnership with Suffolk County Council’s Library Services.
