Fancy reducing your personal carbon footprint but need a range of ideas to get started or to do more? Then the CRed Suffolk Householder’s Guide to Climate Change is for you!
The succinct A5 guide presents 50 ideas ranging from recycling and waste reduction, to energy and water efficiency, transport, food and drink, through to exploring your local area. It has been developed by Suffolk’s climate change partnership, CRed Suffolk, which includes all of Suffolk’s local authorities and a range of other environmentally focused organisations.
‘Changes in behaviour will contribute significantly to the reduction of our personal carbon footprint and the broader carbon footprint for local communities and the county. By bringing together lots of ideas regarding the reduction of carbon emissions and waste, the Suffolk CRED Householders Guide to Climate Change presents lots of personal actions that can be considered and hopefully acted upon’ said Dr Matthew Ling, CRed Suffolk Project Manager.
Sponsorship for the guide was achieved from Airtricity and Fluor who have established a joint-venture operation to develop the Great Gabbard Off-Shore Wind Farm some 25 miles off the Suffolk Coast. This development will produce enough green energy to power 415,000 homes or equivalent to the domestic electricity demand in Suffolk saving nearly 1.5 million tonnes of CO2emissions. ‘Naturally being a renewable energy company, we are really pleased to support the development of a local carbon reduction initiative in Suffolk which has a strong community focus’ said Chris Hill, Project Manager for Airtricity.
A high profile campaign by CRed Suffolk is the partnership with Ipswich Town Football Club called Save your Energy for the Blues which made ‘The Blues’ the first carbon neutral football club.
The CRed Suffolk Householders Guide to Climate Change is available on the 'What Can I do? - Individuals' section of this website.
Printed copies can be ordered from the CRed Suffolk Climate and Energy helpline, Tel: 0800 0288 938. It will also be distributed at a range of community events throughout the county, beginning with the Creating the Greenest County conference, and elements will be printed in community newsletters.
The work of the CRed Suffolk Climate Change Partnership contributes greatly to the newly established ‘Suffolk - Creating the Greenest County’ campaign especially regarding personal environmental actions and business engagement.
