Last chance to apply for the CtGC awards

Friday 15 January 2010

The awards, which have been running for three years are aimed at celebrating the fantastic work that communities, business and schools in Suffolk are doing to help the environment.

People across Suffolk are contributing to Suffolk's aim to become the greenest county. From organising 'environmental awareness events', to looking at the energy efficiency of their organisation or schools and protecting Suffolk's beautiful landscape and biodiversity we want to celebrate them.

There are 18 different categories across the three themes, businesses, communities and schools. They reward a variety of different activities from having a green building to waste and recycling and transport. A new award for this year allows people to nominate for their community or business hero. This award celebrates those individuals who go above and beyond their role.

Wenhaston Energy Support Group won the community energy project award in 2007. ‘Winning an award gives you a number of things, not least recognition for the voluntary effort that you have put in and also credibility within your own community says Janet Dillaway, former chair of the group ‘Don’t hesitate and go for it’.

Winners of the awards receive £200 and are celebrated as environmental champions in publicity and on the Creating the Greenest County website. Winners will also receive the use of the distinctive Creating the Greenest County kitemark and an opportunity to attend all Creating the Greenest County events.
