Christmas Recycling Arrangements

Christmas festivities will generate thousands more cards, electrical items, CDs, DVDs, cartons and glass bottles waiting to be recycled, not to mention all that left over packaging and food. So at this time at year it’s particularly important to make full use of your recycling bin and local recycling centres!

Follow our 'Getting Your Recycling Right' campaign to find out what can and can't go in your recycling bin at home and why it matters! and remember the new information:

  • Anything smaller than 4cm, such as loose bottle tops won't get recycled as they fall through the sorting process.  You can recycle bottle tops by simply washing and squashing your plastic bottles and putting the tops back on.
  • Textiles and clothes can no longer go in your recycling bin, either bagged or loose.  Please donate your clothing to charity shops, or take to your nearest recycling banks.

Glass

If you end up with a few empty bottles after celebrating Christmas and bringing in the New Year don’t forget to recycle them at your nearest glass bank. You can recycle jars too so when you have finished your cranberry sauce, give the jar a quick rinse and put it to one side ready to go. Metal lids and tops can be left on the bottles and jars as they will be separated in the recycling process. Use the bank locator to find your nearest bank.

Household Waste Recycling Centres

The 11 Household Waste Recycling Centres provide a great service for residents over the Christmas period and only close on Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day and Wednesdays.

Please remember to sort your recycling before you get to the site as they can be particularly busy over the Christmas period. If you not sure which materials can be recycled in your kerbside bin or at Household Waste Recycling Centres please visit the A -Z of recycling.
