Discarded cigarette end costs Ipswich woman £200
The woman was seen throwing litter from her car by an officer of Suffolk Coastal and Waveney, whilst driving along Fore Street in Ipswich last November. The officer reported the incident to colleagues at Ipswich Borough Council who sent a Fixed Penalty Notice, however it went unpaid despite two reminder letters, so IBC took the driver to court this June. She was found guilty and ordered to pay a total of £200.
An Ipswich Borough Council spokesman said:
We do take these cases very seriously and we strongly advise that people who are caught littering do pay the fixed penalty notice. Otherwise, as in this case, they can end up in court and paying a lot more.
