'Suffolk - Creating the Greenest County' is proud to launch an exciting new awards scheme that celebrates the environmental excellence of different organisations across Suffolk.
These awards will be an annual event highlighting how Suffolk's communities, businesses and schools are leading the way on a wide range of environmental areas, from cutting transport to buying local products to protecting local biodiversity.
Suffolk already has some fantastic people doing amazing things.
These awards celebrate their achievements, and enable the lessons from their work to be publicised more widely. A panel of
expert judges from a variety of fields selected Greenest County Champions within three themes:
These awards provide the opportunity to reward green excellence in all its forms - each theme is divided into five
categories aimed at different kinds of project or achievement. Full details of each theme can be found by following the links at the bottom of this page.
The first round of these awards closed on January 6th 2008. Winners were announced at the Business and Environment conference on February 12th 2008. Award winners will be named as 'Champions' and will be featured on this website and in other promotional material as case studies. They will also get use of the distinctive Creating the Greenest County kitemark. The second round will open later this year, and again all details will be on this website.
Sponsors for the awards include British Telecom, the Environment Agency, SLP Energy, MLM Consulting Engineers, Ransomes Jacobsen and Blue Star Skips Limited. Sponsors have been involved in the development of the awards and will make an important contribution to the judging process.
The judging process is currently ongoing. The judging is taking place online, in order to minimise the resources used. Not only do we not have to print off scores of application forms, but the judges do not need to travel to discuss their decisions. The whole process can be done in their own time, wherever they want, with a facility to enable online discussion of entreies. We are extremely grateful to all judges for their generous commitment of time and effort to make these awards a success, including:
