Consultation on Suffolk Climate Action Plan

The Consultation period has now closed. Thank you for all your responses.

The final publication will be available early 2009.

Flooding, coastal erosion, blue tongue, development of offshore wind farms, carbon dioxide emission targets...........climate change is already having an impact in Suffolk and we need to develop a coherent, joined up approach to dealing with it, which involves everyone.

Suffolk Strategic Partnership has tasked CRed Suffolk Climate Change Partnership with developing a climate change action plan for the county. This plan will set out a framework for how we will:

- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions

- Work in partnership across Suffolk to encourage individuals and organisations to get involved

- Prepare for the changes that will happen because of the changing climate

- Change attitudes and create behavioural change around how we use natural resources

- Identify and communicate the economic, social and environmental benefits of taking action on climate change, and the costs of not taking action.

There is an enormous amount of work currently underway in the county to mitigate and adapt to climate change. This plan attempts to identify and communicate existing actions as well as clarifying what more needs to be done, the resources needed and lead organisations to take this forward.

Development of the draft plan has been the result of contributions from a range of partners who initially came together at a workshop held in July 2007 (see the plan for a list of those attending as well as the main author of each theme). The draft has been pulled together very quickly in order to be ready for the Creating the Greenest County conference. It is a basis for discussion rather than a comprehensive overview of issues and therefore needs your input.
