Suffolk County Council

Suffolk County Council (SCC) is proud to support the Creating the Greenest County initiative. The county council signed the Nottingham declaration on Climate Change and with representation from both county councillors and officers on the Think Tank, SCC hopes to play a full part in ensuring the ongoing success of this excellent initiative.

The county council employs over 20,000 staff and delivers a huge range of services across the county - including social care, education, the fire service, transport planning, rights of way, countryside management, minerals and waste planning and public protection. The county council therfore has a potentially huge impact on the environment through the management of its own estate, the delivery of services and as a community leader.

Environment Action Plan

SCC recognises an obligation to deliver concrete actions as its contribution to Creating the Greenest County. From May to September 2007 a cross-party panel of councillors worked with officers from all different service areas to a develop a response to this initiative. The result was this Environment Action Plan. As acknowledged by Cllr Eddy Alcock, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Waste, the scale of the task will mean that the Action Plan needs regular review to ensure it continues to represent best practice - "This document marks a positive step on a continuous journey of environmental improvement".
