Everything you need to know

There is no doubt about it – Suffolk is leading the way for regional climate change success. For years, Suffolk’s public sector have been working to remove the barriers to a net zero county. With the new Government’s ‘Plan for Change’ we see a future in which central government backs our local work and empowers us to deliver real change.

Are you thinking…what, where, how, when and who?

We would be too.

Creating the Greenest County is a cross-public sector vision for Suffolk. The Suffolk Climate Emergency Plan sets out how the people tasked with delivering a net zero Suffolk are actively making it happen.

At strategy level these people include the Suffolk Public Sector Leaders, Suffolk Councils’ Environment Portfolio Holders’ Group and the Suffolk Climate Change, Environment and Energy Board.

At delivery level these include the Suffolk Climate Change Partnership and the Suffolk Climate Emergency Plan delivery groups of which there are five: cleaner power, industrial and commercial energy use, low carbon transport, sustainable homes and collaborative action.

More nitty gritty

So, what do we want?

It’s simple. We have identified three ways in which you can successfully deliver your ‘Plan for Change’ by working with us.

Mission: ‘To provide greater stability, a Labour government will give councils multiyear funding settlements and end wasteful competitive bidding.’

Our ask: Provide adequate, multi-year funding for local authority climate action and end competitive bidding.

home with solar panels

Mission: ‘Offer grants and low interest loans to support investment in insulation and other improvements such as solar panels, batteries and low carbon heating to cut bills. Labour will partner with combined authorities, local and devolved governments, to roll out this plan.’

Our ask: Work with Suffolk’s public sector organisations to better motivate Suffolk’s homeowners to implement energy efficiency measures.

food growing

Mission: ‘Improve access to nature, promote biodiversity, and protect our landscapes and wildlife’

Our ask: Establish a clear strategy to incentivise landowners and managers to improve levels of biodiversity on appropriate holdings.

The Norfolk and Suffolk Nature Recovery Partnership are already working on a Local Nature Recovery Strategy.

We look forward to hearing from you about working together to deliver your Plan for Change and the Suffolk Climate Emergency Plan.
