Ipswich Wildlife Group win Member of the Month

12 September 2024

The Ipswich Wildlife Group (IWG) was founded in 2002, with the aims of protecting and enhancing the environment of Ipswich, including creating over 1500 wildlife homes in 2023.

Currently, they have around 60 active members.  Leila Matata, Secretary of IWG gave a brief overview of their projects:

“We work alongside Friends of Belstead Brook Park and Ipswich Greenways Project to carry out conservation activities in Spring Wood and Alderman Canal. In these locations we carry out habitat management and maintenance to ensure the public has access to these sites all year round. We also make homes for wildlife such as bird, hedgehog and bug boxes which we sell to raise funds for the charity or donate to local groups at various events throughout the year to provide homes for wildlife, in 2023 we attended 17 events and made over 1,543 wildlife homes.”

The group are delighted to have been awarded Member of the Month, and are hoping they can inspire more people to engage with in local wildlife. IWG run events monthly; these range from practical work parties, their conservation activities, and their wildlife homes building work party. As well as this, the group attend other community events, including an upcoming Halloween themed event at Christchurch Park. You can get in contact with the group and find out more at Facebook.
