A community project to help residents save energy and money is to be launched this Saturday, by Green Ixworth with the support from West Suffolk councillor John Griffiths.

The Home Energy Campaign is being launched at Ixworth Village Hall.

Residents from Ixworth and the surrounding area are welcome to attend the launch at 10.30am. There will be a brief presentation and then a chance to find out about the support and advice available to homeowners, tenants, and landlords to help them save on their energy costs and help the environment at the same time. The launch will finish at 12.30pm.

There will be information and advice about insulation, solar panels, heat pumps as well as the free help available through the Warm Homes Suffolk initiative available to lower income families. The event will also offer the chance for residents to find out about other funding including grants, loans, and discount schemes.

Residents will also be able to sign up to have a free heat mapping carried out of their home. Using a thermal imaging camera, the heat mapping will show where heat is being lost from their home, so that the resident can improve their insulation.

The project has been backed with £600 of locality budget support from West Suffolk councillor John Griffiths who represents Ixworth, with matching funding from local donors.

Cllr Griffiths who is also leader of the Council, said:

“West Suffolk Council is committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2030 but we are also working to support our residents and businesses in helping themselves and our environment as well. Part of that work includes helping them reduce their energy use or switch to renewables. Through Warm Home Suffolk we are already providing free help for people in low-income homes with a low energy efficiency, stay warmer for longer while using their heating less often.

“Through our families and communities work, which includes Community Chest grants and locality budgets, we are also backing the work of community groups and other organisations to help residents across West Suffolk through this incredibly challenging time.

“The Home Energy Campaign by Green Ixworth is one example of this. It’s a community-led initiative that I hope will be of real benefit to residents in the local area, and as local ward councillor I am pleased to be able to give it my support.”

Roger Spiller from Green Ixworth said:

“The group set up in 2020 to help protect and improve our natural and built environment and to improve the health and well-being of people in the Ixworth area. The cost of living and rising energy bills represents a huge challenge, and this initiative will support residents in reducing their energy costs and helping the environment at the same time. The practical advice we are offering will help the Climate and the residents pocket. We are delighted to have the support of Cllr Griffiths and West Suffolk Council and would encourage everyone to come along to the launch event on Saturday to find out more about how we can help you.”
